Welcome to Lake Simtustus website
Here's a little information about Lake Simtustus you may want to know:
Lake Simtustus is a great place to visit. There are two RV and
campground parks on the lower end of Lake Simtustus. Pelton
Park now has a campground with full electric hook ups. In our opinion it
is the best place to stay on Lake Simtustus. The other campground on the
lake used to be run
by Homer and Cozy for several years and was a very popular place. Homer
and Cozy are no longer there and they have now changed owners or
managers at least a few times. They keep changing the prices too
and the services they offer. I
think they may price themselves right out of business but that's just my
opinion. For now, I think the best place by far to stay on Lake
Simtustus is at Pelton Park. Don't take my word for it. Make
reservations at both places for a few days and decide for
yourself as this is really a different strokes for different
folks issue but here are the reasons I like Pelton Park much
better.
Good Reasons To Stay At Pelton Park
Campground
Instead Of The Other Campground At Lake Simtustus
-
More sites that are located closer to the lake.
Big sites and small sites and they are all laid out differently for a
much nicer appearance. It is more of a camping atmosphere rather than at
the other campground where the spaces all seem to be jammed together.
All the sites run up along the shore so many of them are real close to
the lake. At the other campground, the expensive front row spaces are on
the water but is is not as nice of a view because it is just back in a
bay of the lake and all the other spaces are up on different levels much
further from the lake.
-
Pricing: Pelton park campground has low fair
prices. The other campground has raised their prices quite a bit and I
think they are way too high now. Pricing is subject to change at both
places so always check to make sure. Perhaps by the time this gets
posted on the Internet, Pelton Park will raise their prices and the
other campground will lower theirs so always check.
-
Location for pleasure boats: The Pelton Park
campground is right in big view of the only area of the lake where the
speed limit is over 10 miles per hour. It means you can ski right out in
full view of the camping spots. The other campground is back in a bay
with a no-wake speed zone and you have to travel from there, out of the
bay and down the Lake to the area in front of Pelton Park to ski or go
over 10 mph. Not too handy!
-
Boat ramp: There is a full wide state of the art
boat launch at Pelton Park. At the other campground there si a curved
narrow steep short thing that they refer to as a boat ramp but I think
it's very dangerous to use and I highly recommend that if you have a
bigger boat or an RV that you use to launch it with that you consider
this before deciding where to stay. They offer to put the boat in for
you but they charge for that and you have to go and find someone who is
free to do it and when you are ready to leave you may not be able to
find the person to do it or you may have to wait until they are able.
Once when I stayed there and asked about the poor boat launch facility
they told me I should launch at the Pelton Park ramp and then drive up
to their campground. That's not too convenient and can take another
person or two and a couple more stressful hours out of your vacation.
Please note that the boat launch information is subject to change. I am
not positive that they still charge but they charged me $8.00 when I
stayed there to launch my boat both ways. They may redo the launch some
day too, or by the time this info is posted on the Internet they may
have done so. Please check before making any plans based on what you
read here because things do change.
-
Store and marine facilities: There is a store and
restaurant and marina at Pelton Park. They are run by Abby's Concessions
and they have a great selection of goods and services. You can buy
anything from boat gas and fishing bait to full meals from the
restaurant. The location is convenient. It's right at the boat launch at
the end of the campground. The other campground had a store and bait
shop on the lower level for several years that Homer and Cozy ran. A few
years ago they closed that and moved it all the way to the top of the
hill. They stocked almost nothing and it really didn't matter because
the walk up the hill was not worth the effort. I don't know if they will
ever move the store back down the hill but even if they do that, then
the guests at the top of the hill would have to go all the way down and
back up to get things and if you have ever seen the hill that leads down
to the lake you would know it's VERY steep and no fun to climb.
-
Boat rentals: The Pelton Park marina had a better
selection of fishing and pontoon boat rentals the last time I checked.
That is always subject to change so check for yourself.
